Frequently Asked Questions

When does the Trainee Programme start and how long does it last?

We offer two entry dates per year - April and October. The Trainee Programme lasts for 18 months. The length of each assignment is usually between 3 to 4 months.

Which nationalities are invited to apply?

All, we are very keen to build a strong and diverse team. We currently have trainees from seven different countries:

  • Germany
  • Spain
  • UK
  • Bulgaria
  • Sweden
  • Hungary
  • Switzerland

Is there a deadline for applications?

Yes. We have two entry dates each year. Our closing dates are 31st May for the October intake and 31st October for the April intake.

Can I customise my own Trainee Programme?

Yes. We only set up a few mandatory elements:

  • An assignment in a holiday destination
  • An assignment at our Head Office in the UK
  • An assignment outside of your core specialism

The assignments will be a mixture of day-to-day business and project work. Within this framework you are free to design your own Trainee Programme in co-ordination with the Group Capability Trainee team who will explore opportunities in our different businesses across the world.

Are assignments available across the Group?

Yes, in principle. Previous assignments have included:

  • France: Nouvelles Frontières
  • Greece: Grecotel, TUI Hellas

What is the Tour Guide assignment?

The Tour Guide assignment can take place in any of our holiday destinations, but they mainly take place in the Mediterranean. To get to know our products and customers better, you’ll spend a 2-4 week assignment in one of the destinations.

Who organises the accommodation abroad?

We expect our trainees to look for accommodation themselves, but we will support you in your search. Also Trainees help each other with accommodation in countries they have worked in.

Will there be structured feedback?

Yes. After the first 2½ months you’ll have the first feedback discussion with your assignment line manager. This also includes a development discussion with your Trainee Manager which includes agreement on the basic timetable and looks forward to future assignments.

What personal development opportunities are offered?

There are numerous personal development opportunities – seminars/workshops and continual assessments. A highlight, after one year, is our two days assessment centre which helps to identify your personal development needs. You’ll also be given the opportunity to improve your presentation skills as a company representative at various recruiting events.

Will I be offered a permanent position?

Assuming you receive excellent feedback from your assignments we will strive to identify a suitable position for you.

What happens when the Trainee Programme is over?

After successfully finishing the Trainee Programme, you’ll be qualified to take on your first permanent role. There are three career paths to choose from:

  • Management Track
  • Expert/Specialist Track
  • Project Management

Assuming that you receive excellent feedback from your assignments, there will be many opportunities open to you after completing the Trainee Programme. The path you take primarily depends on your own career objectives.
